Prince William Attends Wedding While Pregnant Kate Middleton Rests At Home Less Than 3 Weeks From Due Date

Prince William had a busy weekend. He celebrated his 31st birthday on Friday, and attended a friend's wedding ceremony on Saturday, in Northumberland, England.

Prince William's wife Kate Middleton stayed at home to rest, Us Weekly reports. The pregnant Duchess of Cambridge is less than 3 weeks away from her due date of July 11. However, her sister Pippa Middleton made it to the wedding of Thomas van Straubenzee and Lady Melissa Percy, daughter of the Duke of Northumberland, Ralph Percy, who are old friends of Princes William and Harry.

The wedding ceremony was followed by a reception at the 1,000-year old Alnwick Castle, which was the backdrop for Hogwarts School in the "Harry Potter" movies. The reception was followed by dinner and dancing at the estate's marquee, followed by fireworks, Us Weekly reports.

Prince Harry avoided what could have been an awkward moment - his ex-girlfriend of five years, Chelsy Davy, was the chief bridesmaid in the wedding, according to E! Online. However, Us Weekly states that there was no tension between the two, and that Davy and Prince William were seen chatting happily before the wedding.

Prince Harry's current girlfriend, Cressida Bonas, was also present at the ceremony.

Prince William celebrated a quiet 31st birthday with Kate this weekend.

Last Wednesday, it was revealed that Kate and William would announce the birth of their royal baby in an old-fashioned way. Us Weekly says that a Kensington Palace spokesman explained that a framed announcement will be placed on a wood and gold easel just behind the gates of Buckingham Palace shortly after the baby is born.
