Caroline Wozniacki Insists Boyfriend Rory McIlroy’s Support Will Help Her At Wimbledon

Caroline Wozniacki, former world No.1 tennis player, has reached the semi-finals of the final warm-up event at Eastbourne last week with her famous boyfriend, golf player Rory McIlroy, in the stands.

Wozniacki is set to stay at Wimbledon until McIlroy can return to give his support on the court, The Mirror reports.

The 22-year-old Dane received a shock when she exited in the first round last year, but insists that her boyfriend's presence will help her do better this time around.

McIlroy, the world No.2 golfer, will play his home tournament at the Irish Open in County Kildare this week. If Wozniacki makes it to the second week, McIlroy will be present on Monday to cheer her towards winning her first Grand Slam.

"I just really like having Rory around and it is great that he comes to support me like at Eastbourne," said the 2006 junior Wimbledon winner. "He has the Irish Open the first week of Wimbledon so hopefully he will be able to follow me the second week."

"It is never easy but I just enjoy Wimbledon so much and hopefully I can get a good run," she added.

The Guardian reports that Wozniacki and McIlroy began their relatioship in the summer of 2011, and coincidence or not, both of their athletic careers took a beating that year. McIlory won two majors but was criticized for his inconsistency, The Guardian writes, and Wozniacki dropped from No.1 to No.9 in the world that year.

However, both athletes deny such claims.

Wozniacki insists that their relationship has done nothing but good for her.

"I think what Rory and I have is very special. He's trying to work it out with his schedule, I'm trying to go and see him when I can, so in that way it's been working out well so far. We speak every day but we never have a set time where we have to speak. We just do it because we want to," she said.
