Bill Cowher, Pittsburgh Steeler Super Bowl Coach in Car Crash in NYC, His New Girlfriend Was Not With Him But Witnesses Seem Confused

Bill Cowher, the Super Bowl champion coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, knows something about blindside hits!

The former head coach of the Steelers got into a car accident on Park Ave. on Sunday, hitting another vehicle that then crashed into scaffolding.

Cowher, 56, was heading north in a black Mercedes-Benz when a woman driving a Ford Fusion going in the same direction cut him off attempting to turn onto E. 92nd St. about 1:10 p.m., according to police and witnesses.

Cowher's Mercedes hit the Fusion, which veered into scaffolding, cracking a pole and sending construction material tumbling down.

Nobody was hospitalized, officials said.

Cowher currently works as an analyst for CBS' "The NFL Today." He coached the Steelers for 15 seasons, ending in 2007.

Beyond that, reports as to exactly what happened seem to vary. DNA Info, citing witnesses, said Cowher was a passenger in the Mercedes as it was traveling behind the Fusion and "possibly rear-ended" it. But both the Post and the Daily News indicated Cowher was driving, with the Post saying Cowher's car struck the Fusion as the Fusion tried to hang a left onto East 92nd, and the Daily News saying both cars were heading north on Park when the Fusion cut Cowher off by trying to turn onto 92nd. The Daily News published a photo that showed damage to the Fusion's rear passenger-side door.

A witness told the Post it was "amazing" no one was hurt.
