Watch Dogs Invades Online Privacy To Market Game Release [VIDEO]: Ubisoft Gathers Internet Data With 'WeareData', Is This Going Too Far?

With Ubisoft set to release Watch Dogs in November, the company has launched an experimental website called "WeareData" to market the game, but perhaps also showcase how reality is not so far from the Watch Dog world.

"In the video Watch_Dogs, the city of Chicago is run by a Cetral Operating System (CTOS). This system uses data to manage the entire city and to solve complex problems. Traffic jams, war against crime, power management..." says the official website.

"This is not fiction anymore. Smart cities are real, it's happening now. A huge amount of data is collected and managed every day in our modern cities, and those data are available for everybody."

Xbox360Achievements states that the website accesses real-time data from Berlin, London, and Paris to create a 3D mapping of what is happening in that very moment.

The data available reportedly range from transport schedules, energy consumption, and traffic and safety infrastructure, to "geo-localized social media activities for the cities' residents, including their public posts on Facebook, Foursquare, Instagram and Twitter."

Perhaps a bit disturbing, but buzz for the game is already high for its November 19 PC release and the soon-to-follow current-gen consoles.

Will WeareData further Ubisoft's sales of the game, or have they gone too far?
