Legend Of Zelda Remake, Final Fantasy XIV Reborn Preview [VIDEOS]: Same Worlds, New Upgrades, Square Enix Begins Beta Testing Before Release

Gamer fans of Nintendo's Legend of Zelda and Square Enix's Final Fantasy are having a busy week, with A Link Between Worlds hosting a Toronto hands-on preview, and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn beginning its third beta test this weekend.

The original Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is getting a facelift with the upcoming 3DS HD remake, which takes place in the same world but will feature a new storyline.

So far, first-hand impressions seem positive.

"In short, it's a nostalgic blast from the past. Right away I recognized many of the game's locations," writes Canada.com contributor Patrick O'Rourke.

An interesting addition is Link's ability to morph into a 2D character and attach himself to walls.

"I was skeptical going in, but found myself totally engrossed with A Link Between Worlds by the time the demo drew to a close," adds Tech Digest gamer Gerald Lynch.

"Feeling fresh yet evocative of a game now older than many of those set to play the new title, A Link Between Worlds should be on all 3DS owner's radars."

So for all the Zelda and Nintendo 3DS fans out there, expect a blast from the past this November when the title gets released.

In other news, Square Enix MMO Final Fantasy XIV is also revisiting an old friend with its revamped PC and PlayStation 3 game, A Realm Reborn.

VG24/7 reports that the upcoming title will have its third beta test this weekend, starting Friday at 10:00am BST until the same time Sunday. This is the first beta test for the title that will be open to PS3 players in addition to PC gamers.

The series of beta testing comes after the dismal critical and commercial failure of Final Fantasy XIV, which prompted several apologies from Square Enix.

With tests to continue into July, A Realm Reborn is scheduled for an August release.
