Florida Man Arrested For Killing Family Dog: Strangled, Cut Up, Cooked, And Ate Mother's Puppy; Stored Some In Freezer For Future Meals

A Florida man was arrested for killing and cooking his family's dog.

Thomas Elliot Huggins, of Hillsborough County, Florida, is accused of strangling his mother's puppy, cutting it up, and cooking its ribs on the stove.

Huggins, 25, allegedly killed "Bandit", the family puppy, and then "cut up the dog into quarters and stored it in the freezer for future meals."

A family member learned about the dog's killing and called police. When the cops came to investigate the incident, they found the dog's head in the garbage and the pet's ribs being cooked in a pot on the stove.

Huggins told authorities he had eaten part of the dog. He said he didn't think doing so was wrong.

Huggins admitted he had "choked the dog with his bare hands" after Bandit, the puppy "began to be aggressive towards him." After strangling the pet, he cut the dog apart with a steak knife, then "went about his day."  Around dinner time, he "put the ribs in a pot and cooked them on the stove... Mr. Huggins advised that he did indeed eat some of the rib meat."

The Florida man's sister told police that her brother "has not been right" for years, and "goes on and on about religion and the lord telling him to do things."

The Tampa Police Department rap sheet says that Huggins' mom, Margie, showed officers a pair of full dog ribs on the stove that appeared to be fully cooked," and "the quartered parts of her dog that were stored in the freezer."

Huggins compared the dog he killed and ate to other animals, and said he didn't think he did anything wrong. He said he had "learned how to clean an animal from his mom as they have done it in the past with squirrels and rabbits."

Huggins, seen in the above mugshot, was charged with cruelty to animals and arrested on the felony charge. He was booked into the Hillsborough County jail and is currently being held there. His bond recently changed from the initial $2,000 to $10,000.
