Avril Lavigne Engaged, Not Yet Married! New Song By ‘Here’s To Never Growing Up’ Singer And Nickleback Chad Kroeger Will Play During Ceremony, Wedding Date July 1

Avril Lavigne confused the media when she held a wedding party on June 29 in Cannes, France, with her fiancé Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger. Many thought the two had tied the knot early.

According to Us Weekly, the couple didn't actually get married, but instead had a party to kick off the festivities. The actual ceremony is on Monday, July 1.

A source close to Laivgne said the couple are "technically not married yet."

The Canadian couple wrote a song together for their wedding, which will be played during the ceremony. "We'll have to release it after," Avril explained at a Nylon Magazine event on June 11.

Lavigne, 28, and Kroeger, 38, announced their engagement in August 2012, Us Weekly reports. This will be Kroeger's first marriage and Lavigne's second. She filed for divorce from Sum 41's Deryck Whibley in October 2009 after three years of marriage.

The confusion of whether or not the ceremony had already taken place started when guests tweeted about the couple, making it sound as if they had officially tied the knot.

Mike Heller, the CEO of the talent company that represents Lavigne, tweeted on Saturday morning: "I'm in south of France about to see my little Rok star #avril get married I am so happy to be part of this special celebration."

And Mindy Weiss, who helped plan the festivities, Instagrammed photos from the south of France, writing: "It is extremely intimate, just close friends and family."

Fans must have gotten ahead of themselves and believed the two had already gotten married over the weekend. But Avril has said in past interviews that she wants the moment to be perfect, so she probably wouldn't rush anything.

"I've been doing it, I'm the girl," she said, when talking about planning the wedding to Nylon. "I'm the one who has the crazy vision and he's letting me be me. It's a lot and I just want to make sure I really enjoy this amazing time."

She added, "I want all the guests who come to have this once in a lifetime experience and I want everyone to say 'Wow!' and for it to be special for everyone, not just us."
