New York Knicks of NBA Are On The Verge Of Acquiring Toronto Raptors Star, Andrea Bargnani; 7-foot Shooter has Been Disappointment to Toronto Fans

The Knicks are on the verge of obtaining Andrea Bargnani, the Toronto Raptors' jump-shooting 7-footer, according to a person involved in the talks.

Bargnani, once considered a potential superstar in the National Basketball Association because of his great shooting ability on he tall frame and his athleticism, has been a disappointment with Toronto. The international player, from Italy, is hoping a new environment will boost his career.

The Knicks would send Marcus Camby, Steve Novak and two future draft picks, one in the first round and one in the second, to Toronto. The first-round pick is for 2016. The teams have agreed in principle to the trade, the person said. It is awaiting league approval, which could come Sunday night.

Bargnani has not delivered on his potential after being taken with the first overall pick in 2006. He has career per-game averages of 15.2 points and 4.8 rebounds in seven N.B.A. seasons.

Bargnani has two years and over $22 million remaining on his contract. He averaged 12.7 points per game on 40 percent shooting last season and appeared in only 35 games after dealing with injuries to his right elbow. He also averaged only 3.7 rebounds per game last season.

The Knicks are sending out the remaining $18.5 million in guaranteed salary between Camby and Novak. Novak has served as New York's three-point specialist in his two years with the franchise, averaging 44.5 percent from beyond the arc.

The first big move of Masai Ujiri's tenure with the Raptors is sending out the oft-criticized Bargnani. This is a clear indication that the Raptors are embracing change as a franchise. Bargnani was the first overall draft pick in the 2006 NBA Draft.
