A man shot in road rage incident allegedly that left one man dead in Tampa on Sunday.

The man shot in road rage incident was identified as 47-year-old Fred Turner Jr. of Orlando, according to authorities.

The man shot in road rage incident was driving on a Florida highway when he called 911 to tell dispatchers he was being followed by a man with a gun after leaving a nearby store, ABC Tampa affiliate WFTS-TV reported.

"We know that at one point in time, this person did pull up beside him and showed him a hand gun," Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee told "Good Morning America" on Monday. "During the time he was on the call with the Highway Patrol, they actually heard the shooting. There were a series of shots."

Turner was found shot and dead on the side of the road when police arrived on the scene. The alleged shooter was nowhere to be found as he fled the scene after Turner was shot and killed.

Law enforcement officials are now looking for a gray, Ford Taurus with tinted windows, WFTS-TV reported.

"At some point, for unknown reasons, the occupant, or occupants, of one vehicle fired multiple shots at the other vehicle," sheriff's office spokeswoman Debbie Carter said. "The caller stated that he had done nothing to cause someone to follow him."
