Neil Patrick Harris Twitter Engagement: Marriage ‘Inevitable’ With David Burtka After Supreme Court Shuts Down DOMA

Neil Patrick Harris and fiancé David Burtka will get married now that the Supreme Court has struck down the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) as unconstitutional, the Huffington Post reports.

The "How I Met Your Mother" star announced his engagement while speaking with E! News at the opening of Michael Jackson ONE at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas Saturday night, the Huffington Post also reports.

Neil Patrick Harris told E! News a marriage is "inevitable."

"Certainly, we have children and marriage is an appropriate thing to do [as] a part of their well being, so I'm sure it will be inevitable-and awesome!" he said.

"I'm not one who jumps around and cheers and screams because I thought that was inevitable and was going to happen," Neil Patrick Harris told E! News.

"It's logical. If you look at public opinion polls, everyone, the majority of people, are very for people that fall in love with each other being able to own that."

Neil Patrick Harris, 40, announced his engagement to Burtka in 2011, despite the fact that the couple got engaged five years prior.

They also have two fraternal twins, Gideon Scott and Harper Grace, who were both born through a surrogate mother in 2010.

Neil Patrick Harris commented on the Supreme Court's DOMA decision on Twitter, following its ruling of unconstitutionality.
