Pokemon X And Y Release Prompts Global Link Dream World Shutdown For Black And White: New Server Launching In October

With Nintendo's Pokemon X and Pokemon Y releasing October 12, the Pokemon Company will be shutting down the Black, White, Black 2, and White 2 Global Link servers as the new generation begins.

According to the official Pokemon Global Link press release, the Dream World servers "will be closing completely on Tuesday, January 14, 2014."

"The new Pokemon Global Link, which will link to the upcoming Pokemon X and Pokemon Y games, is expected to launch in October."

Pokejungle reports that once Pokemon X and Y is released for the 3DS, new user accounts for the old Global Link service can no longer be created.

So what does this mean for Pokemon fans?

Simple, Nintendo wants you to purchase X and Y and start a new generation of memories with their new Global Link service!

"Players who have enjoyed the current Pokemon Global Link over the past few years will be able to carry over certain achievements and records to the new Pokemon Global Link for Pokemon X and Pokemon Y, if they register for the new Pokemon Global Link using their existing user name."

Despite the sudden announcement, it is unlikely fans will be that concerned with Dream World once X and Y is released, with potentially new features.

For those unfamiliar, the old servers allowed players to play mini-games and obtain Pokemon hidden abilities, customize your C-gear and Pokedex skin, and a leader board was available based on your Ranked Rating battles.
