Christian Bale Justice League Batman; ‘The Machinist’ Actor Denies Rumors Of Returning: ‘Let’s Not Get Greedy;’ Will Joseph Gordon-Levitt Be The Next Dark Knight?

Christian Bale has denied rumors that he will return as Batman in the upcoming Justice League film, which will feature a group of heroes from the DC comics, in the same style as the highly-popular "Avengers" movie.

We can't say we are surprised by this news. Bale said he wouldn't do another Batman movie unless Christopher Nolan wrote a fourth film. He spoke to Empire Online last year about the third and final Batman movie: "My understanding is that this is the last one. I think it's appropriate, I think it's going out at the right time...But, if Chris came to me with a script and said, 'You know what? There is another story' then I would love the challenge of making a fourth one work."

Also, the screenwriter of "Man of Steel" and "Dark Knight," David S. Goyer, said that the Batman in Justice League would be a rebooted character, CNN reports.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bale shuts down all hope for fans.

"We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films]. That's enough. Let's not get greedy," 39-year-old Bale said. "Chris [Nolan] always said he wanted to make it one film at a time. And we ended up sitting there looking at each other, saying 'We're about to make the third.' We never really knew if we were going to get to be there, but if that was how it was going to be, this was where it should end as well."

Bale wasn't involved in any talks for the Justice League movie. "I have no information, no knowledge about anything. I've literally not had a conversation with a living soul. I understand that they may be making a Justice League movie, that's it."

However, Bale seems at peace with handing the role to a new actor. Last year, he told MTV News he was "very intrigued to see another interpretation of [Batman] at this point." He added, "I'd be the first one there to watch."

To Entertainment Weekly, he said: "It's a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with."

So who will take that torch? Rumors say that Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who co-starred with Bale in "The Dark Knight Rises," the final Batman installment, will be tapped to take over. Fans speculated that Gordon-Levitt's character, Robin John Blake, was going to make a Batman cameo in a future DC Entertainment film, and then star in "Justice League."

But in January, Gordon-Levitt told MTV News the rumor was completely false.

"It just goes to show how much you can believe rumors," he said.
