Neil Gaiman Sandman Prequel Gets October Release After One Year Delay, DC To Reveal More On 'Literary Event' At Comic-Con

DC and Sandman lovers everywhere may rejoice, as the Neil Gaiman will be releasing the sequel to the iconic graphic novel series on October 30!

According to The Guardian, the prequel tells the story of Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams, during his imprisonment by Roderick Burgess prior to the events of the first issue.

"This is the one story that we never got to tell. In Sandman #1 Morpheus is captured somehow. Later on in the series, you learn he was returning from somewhere far, far away, but we never got to the story of what he was doing and what had happened," says Gaiman.

"This is our chance to tell that story, and JH Williams III is drawing it. It's the most beautiful thing in the world."

The project was announced last year by Gaiman, but fell dormant until recently.

DC will be releasing the "literary event" by releasing an issue of Sandman: Overture every two months to honor it for one year.

"We're honored to have Neil back for a story only he and J.H. can tell. It's a testament to the lasting power of Vertigo, Sandman and Neil's amazing creativity," says DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson according to the Christian Science Monitor.

With the San Diego Comic-Con coming up July 18-21, more details on Sandman: Overture will be announced then with Gaiman, JH Williams III, and Brisih artist Dave McKean in attendance.

The Sandman prequel will be released both in paper and e-book form.
