I-4 Shooter Mistakes Identity Of The Man He Followed, Shot And Killed: So What Was He Thinking?

I-4 shooter mistakes identity of the man he killed last weekend in Tampa as Fred Turner called 911 because he was being followed by a car with a semiautomatic visible. Turner was eventually shot and killed while the police were listening.

The I-4 shooter mistakes identity of Turner for somebody else. Jerome Hayes turned himself into the Hillsborough Sheriffs Department on Monday morning, according to Examiner.com.

Hayes, the I-4 shooter mistakes the identity as somebody he told police that he thought was somebody from a fight. The fight took place at a nightclub. He told police he got into a fight with a man he believed to be Turner.

Turner left the nightclub. At the same time, Hayes and another man waited to follow the man he got into a fight with. He thought the man left, but that man stayed and Hayes didn't know it. He then followed Turner because he said he thought it was him.

"At some point, for unknown reasons, the occupant, or occupants, of one vehicle fired multiple shots at the other vehicle," sheriff's office spokeswoman Debbie Carter said. "The caller stated that he had done nothing to cause someone to follow him."

Hayes is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting of Turner.

"We know that at one point in time, this person did pull up beside him and showed him a hand gun," Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee told "Good Morning America" on Monday. "During the time he was on the call with the Highway Patrol, they actually heard the shooting. There were a series of shots."
