Homer Bailey No-Hitter Tuesday In Cincinnati: Makes Him The First Since Nolan Ryan To Throw The Last Two No-Hitters [VIDEO]

Homer Bailey no-hitter Tuesday night made the Cincinnati Reds pitcher the first man since Nolan Ryan to have the last two no-hitters in the MLB.

The first Homer Bailey no-hitter came a season ago when Bailey beat the Pirates 1-0 in Pittsburgh last Sept. 28 and got another 17 starts later.

This Homer Bailey no-hitter came in a 3-0 victory over the defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants.

''It's something I've already done, so I knew what to expect,'' Bailey told the Associated Press of his easy-as-could-be step into rare territory.

The Reds scored one run in the first and apparently it was all they needed when Joey Votto knocked in a run. They scored two more sixth inning when Brandon Phillips drove in two more insurance runs.

Bailey's no-hitter mark something that had not been done since 1975. During that year, Nolan Ryan pitched a no-no for the California Angels on Sept. 28, 1974 against the Minnesota Twins and again on June 1, 1975 against the Baltimore Orioles before anybody else could pitch one.

''Obviously being from Texas and what a legend he is,'' Bailey, who wears No. 34 in tribute to his boyhood hero told the AP. ''To do it once is extra special. To do it twice - I don't really have the words for it right now.''

Ryan threw seven career no-hitters.

Reds manager Dusty Baker was right there to support his pitcher.

''He comes from the state of Texas that has produced a lot of no-hitters,'' Baker, who made the final out in Ryan's fifth no-hitter told the AP. ''It means a lot - and he's still got some time left.''
