‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Movie Cast: Robert Pattinson Will Star As Christian Grey In Film? Release Date Announced
"Fifty Shades of Grey," the highly-anticipated movie adaption of the book with the same name by E.L. James, has a release date but no official cast. Fans have speculated which actors will star in the film, and the latest news is that Robert Pattinson may be in the running for the role of Christian Grey.
Focus Features announced on Thursday that "Fifty Shades of Grey" will be released in North America on August 1, 2014, according to USA Today. Sam Taylor-Johnson was named director for the film in June.
But who will play the main characters Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele? Names like Ian Somerhalder and Alexander Skarsgard, as well as Emilia Clarke and Alexis Bledel, have been dropped, but mostly by eager fans. Now, it sounds like Robert Pattinson, star of the "Twilight" franchise, may be the new contender.
Robert Pattinson reportedly spoke to E.L. James at his elaborate Great Gatsby-themed party on June 22, HollywoodLife.com reports.
A source told OK! Magazine that they discussed the role of Christian Grey.
"Rob and E.L. were in deep conversation," the source said.
"Rob also joked that it would be the best acting of his life, because there is no way he is that confident in real life," another eyewitness added.
Rob mentioned to E.L. James that he would have to change his scruffy image to play the immaculate Mr. Grey, and the source told OK! Magazine that "E.L. said that was still up for debate - if he signed on."
It almost sounds like E.L. offered him the role!
This would be more good news for Robert Pattinson, who was rumored to be dating Riley Keough after they were spotted driving near his home in L.A.'s Los Feliz neighborhood. Robert split from long-time girlfriend and "Twilight" co-star Kristen Stewart in May, after he discovered she cheated on him with married director Rupert Sanders.
The "Fifty Shades" trilogy has sold over 70 million copies worldwide in e-book and print, USA Today reports.
