4th of July Fireworks NYC 2013: Street Displays Over? Police Bust Queens Man For Selling Illegal Fireworks

Following an undercover buy, on Wednesday cops busted George Liakas, 26, for illegally dealing fireworks and seized dozens of boxes of fireworks and fireworks-making materials at his Astoria home, said police, the Queens Courier reports.

Queens Vice unit members bought $500 worth of fireworks from Liakas on Tuesday evening near Hillside Avenue and Queens Boulevard. At that time, Liakas told the officers that he had "a lot more fireworks" at his house, the Queens Courier also reports.

According to authorities, Liakas was arrested the following night as he was approaching his 49th Street home and a search warrant was executed on his residence and vehicle, the newspaper writes.

But that doesn't mean Queens residents will miss out on the fireworks spectacle on the 4th of July.

The Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks 2013 in NYC is expected to bring in over 3,000,000 viewers to watch the live 25-minute show entitled "It Begins With A Spark" this year, in addition to millions more who will tune in on television.

The annual spectacle is expected to light up the city sky Thursday night as 40,000 shells are loaded onto four barges along the Hudson River, the Associated Press reports.

A happy face with a wink exploding over NYC as part of Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks 2013 will also be a part of the nation's biggest display, the Huffington Post writes.

The barges are to be set up on the river between Manhattan's West 24th and 42nd streets, with fireworks shooting about 1,000 feet into the air, the Huffington Post also writes.
