Minecraft Xbox 360 Update: Release Date Saves Xbox One? Xbox 360 Edition Sells Over 7 Million Copies

Xbox 360 editions of Minecraft have sold over 7 million copies around the world, according to a tweet posted by 4J Studios, bringing hope to Xbox One enthusiasts looking for a copy on the next-generation console.

Microsoft has been criticized by many for its Xbox One specs, price and policies but the news that Minecraft surpassed the 7-million mark is great news for those hoping that particular games will attract more people to the Xbox One.

"There's little doubt how popular Minecraft has been on the Xbox 360 since it launched last year, as its continually defied expectations month after month. It shouldn't come as a surprise then to learn another sales milestone was passed this June," writes Screen Crush.

"Most retail games would kill for those kinds of sales figures, but Mojang and 4J Studios have made one of the biggest commercial successes as a digital download. With the game already set for an Xbox One release, it's unlikely the sales are going to stop, especially if saves can transfer over."

Minecraft is a game made by an independent developer that allows users to build and craft constructions out of textured cubes in a three-dimensional world generated by graphics.

The game, although independently developed, has garnered five awards from the 2011 Game Developers Conference and has also received the Best Downloadable Game Award.
