Amy Winehouse Death: Mother ‘Wasn’t Surprised’ By ‘Back To Black’ Singer’s Death, She Says Before 30th Birthday; 'She Probably Thought She Was Immortal'

Amy Winehouse died a tragic death caused by alcohol poisoning on July 23, 2011, when she was just 27 years old, following a long battle with drug and alcohol addiction. Her mother, Janis Winehouse, opened up about the death of her daughter on the second anniversary.

In an interview with The Sun on the second anniversary of Amy's passing and the year that the "Back to Black" singer would have turned 30, Janis reveals she was wasn't surprised by her daughter's death, MTV News reports.

Janis explained: "When I think Amy would have been 30 this year, it doesn't feel right. I'm not saying I always foresaw this but I wasn't surprised.

"I couldn't see Amy as an older person. She was this young girl who exploded into the world like a firecracker and then it was, 'Okay, I'm done - I'm off'."

She added: "Amy was never meant to be 30."

Her mom admitted she still has a hard time coping with the death of her daughter.

"I lie in the bath and listen to music, cry most days and think of Amy. What I miss most is her hugging and kissing me. She was always telling me she adored me," Janis said.

"Amy used to squeeze me and hug me so tightly. I miss that so much," Janis added with teary eyes.

Amy's mother, 58, also said that her daughter was having trouble in her life before her death two years ago.

"She had kicked the drugs but I also know she was bored - bored with doing the same gigs and same music.

"I would definitely say Amy was bored with life. I believe in life after death and that when Amy passed she probably met with her grandma, who said to her, 'You see, I told you this would happen! I told you to stop your mad way of life'.

"And Amy probably said: 'Oops, I didn't mean to do that'. I think she surprised herself. She probably thought she was immortal," Janis said.

An exhibit demonstrating Amy Winehouse's private life, called "Amy Winehouse: A Family Portrait," has opened at London's Jewish Museum.
