Teresa Heinz Kerry Health In "Critical But Stable" Condition After Seizure [VIDEO], Wife of Secretary of State John Kerry Rushed to Hospital; Will Her Recovery Affect US Diplomacy?

Teresa Heinz Kerry had a health scare this weekend while vacationing on Nantucket island.  After an incident, she was rushed from the island to Massachusetts General Hospital by air.

According to the Boston Globe, Teresa Heinz Kerry is the wife of current Secretary of State, former Senator and former Presidential hopeful John Kerry.  She has been married to Kerry since 1995.  Teresa Heinz Kerry was also married to John Heinz, wealthy heir to the Heinz corporation, prior to his death in an air collision. 

Teresa Heinz Kerry has also been an accomplished philanthropist with her wealth.  She runs the Heinz Family Foundation, funding social and environmental causes around the globe.  Her health has been an important cause for her, as her diagnosis of breast cancer resulted in her advocacy of early detection mammogram screenings.

Teresa Heinz Kerry's wealth has been a campaign issue for her husband, and sometimes garners unwanted attention.  The Kerry's holiday on Nantucket was supposed to be a respite from the fast pace of foreign travel for the couple, but it garnered unwanted headlines before Heinz Kerry's hospitalization due to health. On Friday, a State Department spokeswoman had to retract an earlier denial that Kerry was on his yacht, Isabel, as the military coup happened in Egypt Wednesday.  The shots at Teresa Heinz Kerry's wealth made for a difficult Presidential campaign for her husband. 

State Department spokesperson Glen Johnson said: "Late Sunday afternoon, Mrs. Teresa Heinz Kerry was taken by ambulance to Nantucket Cottage Hospital, accompanied by her husband," Johnson said in a prepared statement. "Once doctors had stabilized her condition, she was transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, again accompanied by the Secretary."

"The family is grateful for the outpouring of support it has received and aware of the interest in her condition, but they ask for privacy at this time."

Johnson did not provide any further details of her condition.
