LeAnn Rimes Bullied By Jealous Classmates, ‘Spitfire’ Singer Says Girl Brought Knife To School In 6th Grade And ‘Tried To Kill Me!’

LeAnn Rimes opened up about being bullied in school by her classmates. LeAnn, a 30-year-old country singer of hits like 'Spitfire' and 'Blue,' performed at an anti-bullying event organized by the Friend Movement in Los Angeles.

LeAnn Rimes spoke to Entertainment Tonight at the event about her personal bullying experiences.

"I was bullied when I was a kid -- when I was in junior high," Rimes said. "A lot of girls can get real mean during the 6th grade year."

Rimes admitted that she was bullied by her classmates because they were jealous of her career, which was just beginning to take off at that time, Us Weekly reports.

"I used to perform around Dallas and Texas where I lived a lot," she said. "My principal would put something on the bulletin board if I was in the newspaper or something, and there was this clique of girls that did not like it."

Rimes even said that one girl threatened her with a knife one day at school

"So, I had my locker egged, I had a girl bring a knife to school the last day of 6th grade and tried to kill me!" she said. "Awesome. So, I'd say I was bullied a little."

The country singer said the bullying hasn't stopped, despite her fame and success. Rimes shared that social media is where most of the bullying comes from.

"I've been such a target I guess for misjudgment lately, and [get] a lot of anger from some people, especially through social media," LeAnn said. "Obviously we're [celebrities] underneath a microscope and in the spotlight all the time, but it's no reason to be able to pick apart someone the way that a lot of people do."

According to the United Press International, Rimes gets a bad rap from her affair with now-husband Eddie Cibrian, which splashed covers of taboids and broke up two marriages.

She added, "We're human ... this is my job, and then I have my life. But I'm a human being in both of them -- and I think people forget that a lot of times."
