Saints Row 4 Release Date: Volition Not Worried About Next-Generation Games? Developer Says Game Is ‘Unique And Different From Everything Else’

Volition Inc senior producer Jim Boone told Games Industry he isn't that worried about competition from next generation games. In fact, he was more worried about Saints Row: The Third, which released in competition to a packed 2011 triple-A line-up, VG 24/7 reports.

"There were a lot of big heavy hitters going out at the same time, so I wondered. And it went out and was the biggest Saints Row game we've done yet," he said.

"I think the big thing that we have going for us is that our game is so unique and different from everything else that's out there, and because we have an audience that absolutely loves this game, that helps us cut through some of the other noise that's out there."

But Saints Row 4, a game that grants users superpowers inside of a virtual reality city, might be at the end of its time as a saga, PC Gamer reports.

Volition also said they are reconsidering ending some of the wacky gameplay features that are a trademark of the game.

Saints Row 4 is infused with capabilities that allow users to kill enemies in the game using tactics unheard of before, including aiming a weapon at someone that will eventually make their head explode.

Volition will release the game on August 20 for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles. The developer has not announced changes for next-generation consoles Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
