J. Cole ‘Born Sinner’ Album Sells 8,000 More Copies Than Kanye ‘Yeezus,' Makes Rare Climb To No. 1 On Billboard 200 Album Chart In Third Week

J. Cole's album "Born Sinner" makes a rare move from No. 2 to the No.1 spot three weeks after its release, outselling Kanye West's "Yeezus" and Wale's "The Gifted" on the Billboard 200 album chart.

"Born Sinner" is Cole's second chart-topping record. It was released on June 18 and sold 58,000 copies last week, according to Reuters.

Billboard said there have been only 76 albums in chart history that did not debut at No. 1 but then moved to the top spot in following weeks on the album chart, Reuters wrote.

"Born Sinner" has sold 439,000 copies in total, which is 8,000 more sold copies than West's "Yeezus." Kanye's album originally debuted at No. 1 three weeks ago but dropped to No. 2 when Wale's "The Gifted" took the top spot last week.

Next week the charts will most likely change again, when Jay-Z's new album "Magna Carta...Holy Grail" officially drops. According to Reuters, the estimated sales projections are 350,000 to 400,000 copies sold in its first week, which would make it steal the No. 1 slot.

It would also make "Magna Carta" the second-highest debut of 2013, behind Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience," which sold just under 1 million copies, Radio.com reports.

According to Rolling Stone magazine, album sales were down six percent so far this year, and track sales were down roughly two percent.

Cole's first chart-topping album was his 2009 debut, "Cole World: The Sideline Story." The album sold 218,000 in its first week. "Born Sinner" sold 327,000 when it was first released three weeks ago.
