Amelia Earhart's Relative To Recreate Historic Flight: Amelia Rose Earhart Will Follow Namesake's Footsteps- And Flight Path

Amelia Earhart's relative will recreate her historic flight next summer.

Amelia Rose Earhart, who is a namesake and relative of the aviator, said that she will "complete" her relative's attempted flight around the world.

Earhart is also an anchor for KUSA-TV in Denver.

"One year from now I will be completing, symbolically completing, and recreating Amelia Earhart's historic flight around the world. It's a dream that I've had since I was about 18 years old," Earhart said.

She will retrace her distant relative's exact flight path in a Pilatus PC-12 NG, a single-engine turbine aircraft.

While not a direct descendant of Amelia Earhart, the two have a common ancestry in the 1700s.

Amelia Earhart's plane went down in 1937 over the South Pacific, aborting her mission to become the first woman to fly around the world-and shrouding her in mystery forever.

Amelia Rose Earhart made the announcement about the flight while at an experimental aircraft show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. She plans to fly with Patrick Carter, a businessman, entrepreneur, and experienced pilot. Carter has been both a corporate pilot and a test pilot for Cessna Aircraft.

In addition to retracing and "completing" her relative's trip, Earhart said that the trip will raise money for a foundation she established. The charity helps finance flight training for young women in Denver. And, in addition, she will get to spend time in the place where she feels most at peace and fulfilled-lots of it.

"The feeling I have when I get up there in the airplane is unlike anything else," Earhart said.
