‘Parks And Recreation’ Season 6 Spoilers: Rashida Jones And Rob Lowe Having A Baby? Will Exit Show Mid-Season

Fans of "Parks and Recreation" got a huge shock Wednesday when it was revealed that Rashida Jones and Row Lowe are leaving the television series in season 6. Mike Schur, an executive producer of "Parks and Recreation," also slipped a few spoilers.

Schur answered reporters' questions after Fox's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" at the Television Critics Association Summer 2013 press tour. He said Jones and Lowe, who play Ann Perkins and Chris Traeger on "Parks and Recreation," exit from the show was a "big, happy, mutual hug-fest celebration," The Huffington Post reports.

He also explained that their storylines were naturally "dovetailing and aligning" with their career choices.

"The first thing we talked about was Ann and Chris. Specifically, it was like, 'Now that they're on this train, where she's decided that she wants to have this baby and he should be the father, [what's next?]'" Schur explained. "We kind of want them to have a baby, so that'll be the plan. Once they were together and had a baby, the more we talked about it, the more it felt like, maybe this was the way that they get moved off in the next phase of their lives," Schur said.

Schur said the producers then discussed when would be a good time for their characters to leave the cast, and he said mid-season felt "natural," The Huffington Post reports.

"[Rashida] was totally on board. The real headline is that everyone is happy. There's no controversy," Schur insisted again.

According to Schur, Rashida has a producing gig at Warner Bros. and she "just sold a TV show." Meanwhile, Lowe may have a "holding deal" on a new NBC show.

Fans may find this news very disappointing, but no one will be hit harder by the news than Leslie Knope, played by Amy Poehler. But Schur assured reporters that Leslie is tough enough to handle her best friend's changing life.

"She's been handed a lot of challenges before in her life, and she's always come through to the other side," Schur said of Leslie. "That's not the only challenge she's going to be facing this year. We like to encourage change in our show -- people getting married and having kids and moving on. Every time we make those decisions to make those big moves, things are interesting and fun for the creative team."
