Pantech Discover Review, News: AT&T Budget Phone Gets It First Scoop Of Android Jelly Bean, Users Get Access To Project Butter

The Pantech discover is getting an update via AT&T, which the mobile carrier launched last January. The handset was announced by the telecom giant as a budget-friendly smartphone and it’s now getting its first Jelly Bean update.

According to the website Android Community, the handset will be getting Android 4.1.2 and that the update process began July 31.

Users who carry the Pantech Discover now have two options when getting the Jelly Bean update made available for them.

One way is for users to wait for the update notification to arrive on their handsets. The other alternative is to take initiative in seeking out the update by navigating the phone’s settings, clicking on Menu, then Settings, then AT&T software, then updates. Pantech users can then check for updates and get the process started.

For the patient handset owner who can wait, you will only need to follow the on-screen prompts once the notification arrives.

The Jelly Bean update will enable the Pantech user to obtain the usual Android specific goodies, which includes Project Butter. Butter is an initiative for the Android mobile operating system to make the OS quicker and more responsive for its users.

The Android Community wrote that users updating from Ice Cream Sandwich also see improvements like Google Now and Voice Search. There would also be expandable and actionable notifications via the drop-down notification shade.

Pantech Discover is available with AT&T for $49.99 on a two-year contract and can also be purchased under the AT&T Next offering. Through AT&T Next, Pantech owners will pay the $17.75 per month for 20 months, with the $17.75 added to the additional monthly service price. The arrangement enables the users to upgrade to a device of their choice in 12 months, the usual timeframe when new items are released.

The specs for the touted budget phone starts at 4.8-inch (1280x720) display, 2 megapixel front-facing camera and a 12.6 megapixel rear-facing camera, dual-core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm MSM8960 processor, a microSD card slot, 16GB of internal storage, Bluetooth 4.0, a 2100 mAh battery, NFC, DLNA, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11.
