Serena Williams was ranked No. 2 in Forbes Magazine's list of "Highest Paid Female Athletes" earning $20.5 million between June 2012 and June 2013, trailing behind Maria Sharapova who earned $29 million, Examiner reports.

Both female tennis stars earned prize money, endorsements and appearance fees for several tournaments held throughout the year, including the Wimbledon.

Overall, Serena Williams has an estimated net worth of $100 million, according to CelebrityNetworth, and has earned more than $38 million in career prize money.

She also earned $15-$20 million annually from tennis endorsing companies like Nike and Kraft Foods.

Maria Sharapova's entrepreneurial endeavors have also boosted her income - she launched a candy business in 2012 named "Sugarpova," which is available in 15 countries and the company expects to sell 1.5 million bags of candy in the first 12 months at $5 to $6 a bag, according to Forbes.

Li Na, Victoria Azarenka, Danica Patrick, Kim Yuma, Caroline Wozniacki, Agnieszka Radwanska, Ana Ivanovic and Paula Creamer fell subsequent to Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams.
