Alex Rodriguez Suspension 2013: All 13 Baseball Players Suspended For Biogenesis Ties Are Latino

Alex Rodriguez and 12 other major and minor leaguers were suspended for biogenesis ties, USA Today reports, and all 13 of the accused players are Latino.

While the Major League Baseball's investigation was in no way directed to Latinos nor targeted to ethnic background, the suspension of 13 Latino baseball players has certainly caught the attention of the tremendous Latino fan base.

According to RawStory.com, MLB released a statement identifying the following players that had accepted 50-game suspensions: Texas Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz, San Diego Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera, Detroit Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta, Philadelphia Phillies reliever Antonio Bastardo, New York Mets outfielder Jordany Valdespin, Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli, Seattle Mariners catcher Jesus Montero, New York Mets outfield prospect Cesar Puello, San Diego Padres pitching prospect Fautino De Los Santos, Houston Astros pitching prospect Sergio Escalona and New York Yankees outfield prospect Fernando Martinez.

Many of the accused players were born in the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Nicaragua.

Alex Rodriguez was banned through the 2014 season effective Thursday but immediately appealed the penalty, allowing him to make his season debut Monday night in Chicago against the White Sox, USA Today also reports.

"I am disappointed with the penalty and intend to appeal and fight this through the process," Rodriguez said in a statement released to media outlets, including USA TODAY Sports.
