Nokia Lumia 1020 Specs, Price, Release Date: Powerful 41-Megapixel Camera Specs Could Have Made It A Great Phone, Having Windows OS A Bad Move

The Nokia Lumia 1020 specs of having a 41-megapixel sensor instantly made it the smartphone with the best camera in the market. Add to it the attractive and unique, boxy phone designs and it could almost be a winning phone.

But according to VentureBeat, the ultra feature of a high-specs smartphone cam that puts to dust the 8-megapixels and 13-megapixels of the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S4 cameras, respectively, is wasted on the Nokia Lumia 1020 running on Windows Phone.

VentureBeat’s Devindra Hardawar notes that the Finnish giant’s smartphone is “being held back by Microsoft’s inability to bring Windows Phone into the modern smartphone era.”

One of the key disadvantage is the Nokia Lumia 1020 lacking a built-in way to upload videos on YouTube, despite Nokia building an app for it, and a visible absence of an official Instagram app.

The writer shared his experience of having a love/hate experience with the smartphone. Loving the camera but hating the Windows Phone platform it’s running on. According to Hardawar, the phone is something he wants to recommend but cannot in good conscience.

There are currently no camera phones near the capability of Nokia’s PureView. Apple and Samsung opted for slight megapixel improvements, while the HTC went to a different route, offering lowlight performance with only 4 megapixels, according to VentureBeat.

Living up to its hype

According to the report, the Nokia Lumia 1020 lived up to its hype as it can take very clear photos almost similar to what a point and shoot camera can produce. Based on a series of images taken by VentureBeat, the images could be mistaken as coming from DSLR shots. Even in low light, the smartphone from the Finnish tech giant is way ahead of the competition.

The 1020 also shoots the best videos coming from a smartphone, thanks to the powerful PureView sensor. The phone’s advance optical image stabilization allows anyone who can’t keep their hands steady while taking video to be able to capture clear visuals.

The look of the phone stands-out as it doesn’t look like any other phone in the market, which the VentureBeat write says is a good thing.

Windows Phone on Nokia Lumia 1020 a bad move

The Windows Phone inability to effectively integrate with news specs and features aligned with today’s innovations is the key reason that makes the Nokia Lumia 1020, generally a letdown.

Simple integration services to popular web services like YouTube and popular apps like Instagram is non-existent. The lack of an official Instagram app is a huge deficiency, primarily because the selling point of the smartphone is on its image creation capabilities.

The most popular third-party Instagram app, Instance for Windows Phone, had its photo submissions deleted by Facebook at one point. Although Hipstamatic for Windows Phone allows uploads to the famous photo and video-sharing network, but does not allow the user to browse or like photos.

The Windows Phone system also lacks the ecosystem that the iOS and Google Play has when it comes to apps. Although Microsoft recently announced that the mobile operating system now has more than 160,000 apps, is still doesn’t have key apps. This includes the current mobile game craze, Candy Crush Saga.

The lack of demand for Windows Phone app has been the key reason as to why developers are slow in creating apps for the platform.

The VentureBeat writer says that if the Lumia 1020 run on Android, it would be one of the best phones in the market.
