Perseid Meteor Shower August 2013: PHOTOS and VIDEOS Of The Amazing Celestial Light Show

The Perseid meteor shower August 2013 peaked last night and if you have not witnessed it, good news is that there are lots of great photos and videos posted online that you can check out.

The Perseid meteor shower occurs every year. It usually starts in July, and it will peak one night in August. The meteor shower August 2013 had its highlight last night, August 12.

As NASA explained, cited by PopSci, the Perseid meteor shower August 2013 is "debris from the Swift-Tuttle comet. Most pieces are more than 1,000 years old. When the Earth passes through the comet's dust trail, any bits of ice and dust that get caught in the Earth's atmosphere disintegrate, creating the streaks you see. Humans have observed the shower for at least 2,000 years."

The Brevard Times also noted that the Perseid meteor shower August 2013 would be the best, promising to provide a more spectacular light show compared to previous years' show. This is due to the "darker night skies during a New Moon that occurred on August 6."

If you are one of the stargazing enthusiasts who, unfortunately, were not able to see the grandest light show in the sky (so far this year), feast your eyes on the stunning photos below:

Moreover, watch the time-lapse of the Perseid meteor shower August 2013 from CNN. According to the description, this video of the Perseid meteor shower August 2013, was taken by iReporter Jim Denny who shot the celestial show over Kekaha, Hawaii on August 10.

Another video was posted on Youtube showing the Perseid meteor shower August 2013 from user John Chumack. The Perseid meteor shower was taken using Chumack's Meteor Network video camera mounted on his home. The description said that that the video footage from August 9-12 was able to capture 142 Perseid meteor showers.
