Crayon Pop – Will They Just Be Another One Hit Wonder?

Or will Crayon Pop be able to come up with a hit song to follow "Bar Bar Bar?"

"One hit wonder" is a musical phrase used to refer to artists that release exactly one hit song, then disappear without a sound.

Even last year fans speculated as to whether Psy, who made a hit with his song "Gangnam Style," would be a one hit wonder. But he showed them wrong when he came back with another hit song "Gentleman."

There has been talk as to whether Crayon Pop will follow in Psy's footsteps as a K-pop Star. They recently won the number 1 spot on KBS' "Music Bank," and seem to be getting more and more popular.

They are currently at the center of attention in many different controversies, and have even been accused of using noise marketing to rise to popularity with their song "Bar Bar Bar." When we look back on this year's summer hits, there's no doubt that the helmets, training clothes, and 5 cylinder dance will be one of the songs we remember.

But will Crayon Pop be able to come up with another popular hit song like "Bar Bar Bar?"

In the past few years, major agencies have raised idol stars that are currently taking over as K-pop stars with their worldwide fame. Even small agencies tried to piggyback on this trend, but their created teams have not been good enough, and most of them failed.

For Crayon Pop, which belongs to a small agency, it has taken over 1 year to rise to the top of the charts in the music industry. They have quickly become a leading group that fans love.

However one thing to note is that, apart from the normal marketing tactics agencies take on to promote their artists, Crayon Pop seems to be surrounded by a lot of negativity. Hence, there is talk of Crayon Pop being just a one hit wonder.

One example that comes to mind is their "Bar Bar Bar" MR controversy. There was a lot of talk about whether Crayon Pop is a group that can actually sing, and some people point out that rather than song, Crayon Pop is popular for their comical dance.

Because Crayon Pop is currently viewed as a group with little musical talent, there must be a lot of worries on the agency's part on how to go on from here. Unless Crayon Pop releases another hit that sweeps the charts, it will be hard for the group to survive on skill alone. Let's hope that in the upcoming year and the next year and the year after that we'll get to continue to see Crayon Pop on stage.
