One Direction Liam Payne Deemed A Hero After Saving His Bestfriend's Life From A Fire That Broke Out In His Apartment

One Direction's Liam Payne was deemed a hero when he rescued his best friend from a fir that broke out in his apartment.

During the explosion of a patio heater, Payne's friend Andy Samuel was scorched with fire.

He suffered 20% burns to his chest, legs and arms and was put into intensive care that same night with his 1D road dog by his side.

“We are so grateful to Liam because he saved his life," said Samuel's step-dad who was pleasantly surprised by Payne's heroic efforts.  “The lantern just exploded as Andy was lighting it and it took the full force of the flames. Liam helped him by beating out the flames and dousing him with water. He acted quickly and swiftly.  What happened was absolutely awful. My son is very poorly. I’ve spoken to Liam on the phone and he told me exactly what happened. He is very shocked himself. It’s bad enough but it could have been a lot worse.”

Samuel’s sister Harriet, 12, also paid tribute to the brave 1D singer saying, “I want to thank Liam for saving my brother.”

Daisie Smith, girlfriend of the victim tweeted, “Thank you so much for all of your lovely messages and prayers. On behalf of Andy’s family and I we’d like you to know he is in a stable condition.”

Daisie’s mum Kim added: “It’s a very traumatic and difficult time for everybody.”

Samuels, who additionally suffered minor burns to his face, grew up with Liam in Wolverhampton. They were spotted out last week celebrating the pop star’s 20th birthday.

Liam was in the kitchen of his penthouse flat in Canary Wharf, East London, when the blast happened on Monday. The blaze destroyed 80% of his balcony and it took 35 firefighters to put it out.

Another man and a woman are said to have suffered superficial burns to their hands.
