Tech Crunch's report about iPad Mini 2 release date cited Kuo's statement in an investor note suggesting that the 2nd-gen mini iOS tablet and the iPad 5 are entering early production this September. Moreover, full-scale mass production for the upcoming iOS tablets will happen in the 4th quarter of 2013.
This news about iPad Mini 2 release date contradicts reports suggesting that the next-gen tablet devices will be unleashed during the September 10 Apple press event, set to happen in Cupertino, particularly on the Apple Campus. Apple is expected to make announcements about its new iPhone during the event this coming Tuesday. With this, it is expected that iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 release date will be slated for a later event this year.
Aside from the details about iPad Mini 2 release date, Kuo also shared more surprising information in the investor note. As posted in the 9t5Mac report, "it suggests that the rumored 'low-cost' non-Retina Mini will not be released until next year." The report further states, "The explanation offered is that 2014 was the original planned release date for all the new iPads, but that increasing competition in the market led Apple to bring forward the dates for the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2."
As for the specs, iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 are expected to sport the A7X processor, which seems to be a huge improvement from the A5 processor used by the original version of the iPad Mini.
