Google Nexus 5 Release Date: Price Drop Of Nexus 4 Pre-Cursor To Launch Of New Device, Specs Include 5in Screen, Snapdragon 800 Chipset

Google Nexus 5 release date has not been made public by Google despite the price drop of the Nexus 4 which is usually a precursor to the launch of a new product. The Nexus 4 which launched at $370 for its 8GB version was recently dropped to $299 which saw it fly off the shelves. With the Nexus 4 turning one year old soon since its launch, it is speculated by International Business Times (IB Times), that Google will most probably release the Nexus 5 in November.

According to the IB Times, the Nexus 5 will come with a 5in screen which will be keeping in tune with the 5 it bears in its name. This will be 0.3in larger than what we currently have with the Nexus 4. The amount of resolution it will have is still unknown but judging by the top-end smartphones of today, the display will probably be 1080p if it is to be a major competitor.

As much as the display will be pushed up to 1080p, Google’s FCC filing indicates that the smartphone will decrease in height and width from the 134 x 68.7mm of the Nexus 4 to 132 x 68.2mm.

IB Times also stated that the device could run on the Snapdragon 800 chipset from Qualcomm if power is a priority or a mid-range chipset alternatively if their aim is to make the phone affordable.

Looking at the codename used for the FCC filing, IB Times speculates that the LG-D820 suggests the device will be manufactured once again by the same South Korean giant that made the Nexus 4.

According to IB Times, despite being one of the best Android phones in the market, the fact that the Nexus 4 did not have 4G support was did not sit well with consumers. This therefore hints that the Nexus 5 will probably be able to support many 4G frequencies for the best speeds available. There is no indication of whether it will support the 800MHz, 1800MHz, 2600MHz or all of the above.

The IB Times also noted that any development of a Nexus device usually runs concurrently with an upcoming Android update. This therefore shows that, consumers can expect to run their Nexus 5 with the Android 4 now popularly known as Android Kit Kat. What we can expect from the Android 4.4 however is still shrouded in mystery.

Google Nexus 5 release date is expected to be in November with a launch in October.
