Blackberry News Update: Blackberry Allegedly Laid Off Half Of Its Employees, Waterloo First, UK Is Next

For the past three years, Research In Motion (RIM) has been battling the competition just to stay afloat in the market. It still had a loyal fanbase which adored the company's Blackberry keyboard. When the company decided to make full touchscreen devices, they thought the plan would revive the brand.

But the plan backfired.

The inability to provide a smooth user interface and the lack of apps in the Blackberry store where just some of the problems which ultimately caused the manufacturer to lose hope, and announce last month that it is already planning to sell the enterprise. And while initial reports from tech websites say the target month would be December, it seems it has already begun.

In a report by Cantech Letter, a source said that more than half of Blackberry employees have already been laid off.

According to the source based in Waterloo, the consumer sales is basically "gone" and "enterprise is gutted".

"I had twenty guys (from BlackBerry) on BBM from sales, and they have all posted alternate emails on their status," he added.

Furthermore, the source said that the cuts were made today in Waterloo, and the UK will probably come next.

This comes after a report on Sunday that Fairfax Financial boss Prem Watsa is already gearing to take the company's helm.

It seems, Blackberry will get sold sooner than expected.
