Thor Cast Member ‘Loki’ Tom Hiddleston Plays Sad Vampire In ‘Only Lovers Left Alive;’ Will Star In New Horror Flick ‘Crimson Peak’

The cast of Thor 2 are busy with projects outside of the Marvel superhero series, and 'Loki' Tom Hiddleston is no exception.  The god of mischief was at the Toronto International Film Festival recently for the screening of his movie "Only Lovers Left Alive," first shown at the Cannes Film Festival in May where it was nominated for the Palme d'Or.

The 32-year old British actors plays Adam, a brilliant poet and musician, who also happens to be a vampire.  A sad one.

Huffington Post quotes him as saying, "But he (Adam)'s sad because of his appreciation for music. That's the thing. It's not like he's morose or dark, it's actually that he has such an appreciation for real beauty - like mathematical beauty and music and astronomy."

In an interview with BuzzFeed Entertainment, Hiddleston said, "The vampire thing was his (director Jim Jarmusch) framing of the love story. The vampire framing allows his characters to be immortal, so you can extend this concept, you can suddenly ask the question: If you live forever, what does that do to your commitment?"

The cast of the movie had pitched in ideas for the script.  According to director Jarmusch, "I ask them to write their own speeches and I asked them to make them as long as they wanted and they made them quite long and then we edited them as we shot, and then I edited them down more."

Being a theater actor has helped Hiddleston in his role.  He said, "It's amazing; when I was filling myself up with Adam, I went back and read Hamlet, and so much of Shakespeare's poetry seemed to speak to me in a way I'd never reconsidered... All of his plays are a constant source of inspiration for me."

Other than Hiddleston playing Adam, the movie also stars Tilda Swinton as Eve, Mia Wasikowska as Ava, John Hurt as Marlowe, Anton Yelchin as Ian, Jeffrey Wright, Slimane Dazi as Bilal, Wayne Brinston as Mirror Man.

And the actor will be playing a different kind of role come February, when he will start filming the horror flick "Crimson Peak."  It is said (but has yet to be confirmed) that he would take on the role of a detective who is out to investigate the creepy incidents in a haunted house.  Joining him in the Guillermo del Toro film are Charlie Hunnam (a.k.a. Christian Grey), Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Burn Gorman, and Jim Beaver.
