iOS 7 Beta Release [LIVE BLOG]: iOS 6.1.4 Jailbreak For iPhone 5 Achieved, Just In Time For Today's Apple Event

Apple's mobile operating system iOS 6.1.4 has been jailbroken and released into the wild within a day of Apple's announcement of the highly anticipated successor to the iPhone 5.

The current version of iOS 6, released in May this year, was deemed unfit for gaining root access until last Saturday, after an Apple developer tweeted a screenshot of his iPhone running Cydia [SEE PHOTO BELOW], the popular software package that allows users to download and install apps for jailbroken Apple devices.

The developer who uploaded the embedded image in a tweet is known within the Apple homebrewing community as Winocm, who also revealed last week that an untethered jailbreak is possible on iOS 6.1.3.

While many advanced users may be super eager to try jailbreaking their iPhones running iOS 6.1.4, the process of gaining root access is a bit more complicated than what most assume.

That's because users have to find a way to get their hands on the core iOS kernel first before they could inject Winocm's code deep within the operating system.

However, those who are able to jailbreak their iPhones are in for a world of treats, particularly since many features that are present in iOS 7 but unavailable in iOS 6.1.3 are now within reach, such as unlimited tabs on Safari, fine-grained multitasking, and access to the Control Center.

The big news comes right before a press event by Apple scheduled today, which experts predict could be used to announce two versions of the next iPhone.

The announcement is also expected to be broadcast to a select group of people in China, although no further details from Apple Inc. were forthcoming.
