CMA Awards 2013 Nominations: Taylor Swift and Kacey Musgraves Lead With Six Each; Is Country Music Making a Turn to the Left?

Country music artists Kacey Musgraves and Taylor Swift are at the top of the list of the final nominees for “The 47th Annual CMA Awards.” Taylor Swift and Kacey Musgraves each have six CMA Awards nominations. Bob Dylan is also up for a CMA Awards 2013. Both Musgraves and Dylan are a little left-leaning for the traditional country honors.

The CMA Awards 2013 show will air live on Wednesday, Nov. 6, from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on ABC. This is the sixth time that Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood have hosted the CMA Awards.

The Country Music Association Awards are swinging a little liberal in their acclaim of Taylor Swift and Kacey Musgraves as CMA Awards 2013 top nominees. The CMA is known for its adherence to tradition.

This is the third entertainer of the year CMA award for Taylor Swift. She was also nominated for CMA’s Album of the Year and the the CMA Award for Female Vocalist of the Year. This is the first time Kacey Musgraves has been a CMA Award nominee. Musgraves was nominated for CMA awards for Album of the Year and as the top CMA female vocalist.

Blake Shelton, who is the current entertainer of the year CMA Award holder, comes in next. Blake Shelton has five CMA Award nominations. His wife, Miranda Lambert, is tied at five CMA nominations. Miranda Lambert is nominated for three solo CMA Awards and has two nominations with her trio Pistol Annies. Keith Urban and Florida Georgia Line each have four CMA Award nominations.

Blake Shelton and Taylor Swift will go head to head for the top CMA honor, the Entertainer of the Year awards. They are competing with Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan and the retiring George Strait, who won the CMA Entertainer of the Year Award twice..

The CMA Awards 2013 nominations were announced on New York’s "Good Morning America" this morning. Sheryl Crow and FGL later gave a press conference.

Taylor Swift has gotten 21 CMA Awards nominations so far. She nabbed two entertainer of the year CMA Awards. Taylor Swift is tied with Barbara Mandrell as the lead female winner of the CMA Award top honor.

Newcomer Kacey Musgravesm who is also nominated for a CMA New Artist of the Year Award for writing her own hit "Merry Go 'Round" and Miranda Lambert's "Mama's Broken Heart," is surprising because she is politically more liberal than her country music counterparts. The 25-year-old Texas-born singer-songwriter has sung about like homosexuality and other controversial issues on her album "Same Trailer Different Park." The CMA also nominated Bob Dylan. Dylan wrote "Wagon Wheel," with Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show that was a hit for Darius Ruckert. "Wagon Wheel" is also is up for single of the year. Does this signal some change in the storied institution?
