‘Horns’ Film Update [WATCH CLIP]: No Release Date Yet, Clarifies Author Joe Hill; Film Gets Mixed Reviews

'Horns', a dark fantasy film based on Joe Hill's novel of the same title, was recently shown in the Toronto International Film Festival, and word has gotten out that it would be released in theaters this year.  Hill, however, clarified this piece of information in Twitter, saying, "Re: the HORNS release, no I don't think a 2013 release is likely. Not enough time to properly schedule and promote.  Expect in 2014."

The award-winning author further clarified in his website:

"A lot of folks have been asking on Twitter about the US/UK release date. Regardless of what you may have read on IMDb or Wikipedia, or heard from other sources, there is no scheduled release yet. The "why" of that is a lot of inside baseball stuff that I won't go into here. Suffice to say that releasing an indie feature is very different from releasing a big studio tentpole; as different as acupuncture is from a stabbing. Figuring out when to roll it into theaters is a matter of finding the right distributor and the right moment, and preparing for that moment with all the appropriate publicity. The devil, you know, is always in the details."

The film stars Daniel Radcliffe as Ig Perrish, a man in his mid-20s who grows horns after his girlfriend is raped and killed.  Using his new abilities, he goes off in search of the truth and the real murderer, finding out along the way that he has this diabolical ability to draw out other people's deepest and darkest secrets.

The film has so far received mixed reviews from critics, getting a 50 percent rating in Rotten Tomatoes based on six reviews.

Chris Bumbrey's JoBlo's Movie Emporium says, "Given the surprising sweetness of the story, HORNS could have a lot of appeal beyond horror fans."

On the other hand, Henry Barnes of Guardian [UK] wrote, "It trades some of the subtleties of novelist Joe Hill's source material for a Dogma-style mash-up of grim comedy and religious satire."

The film also features Juno Temple as Merrin Williams; James Remar as Derrick Perrish; Kelli Garner as Glenna; Joe Anderson; Max Minghella as Lee Tourneau; Laine MacNeil as young Glenna; Dylan Schmid as young Lee; Sabrina Carpenter as young Merrin; Alex Zahara as Dr. Renald; Kendra Anderson as Delilah; Michael Adamthwaite as Eric Hannity; Desiree Zurowski as a radio reporter; Meredith McGeachie as Mary; and John Stewart as the diner manager.
