J.K. Rowling To Create Series Of Films That Will Serve As Extensions Of Harry Potter’s Wizardry World: Official Release Not Yet Announced

Fans of Harry Potter author JK Rowling have a reason to rejoice for she is currently writing a series of spin-off films whose magical setting is similar to Potter's world.

The first film will be entitled 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' which is based on the actual textbook used by the students of the famed wizardry school, Hogwarts. The film will revolve around Newt Scamander's life, the supposed author of the book.

Rowling clarified that the story would serve as an extension of the wizardry world, not a sequel to the 'Harry Potter' series: "The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the 'Harry Potter' books or seen the films, but Newt's story will start in New York, 70 years before Harry's gets under way."

The highly-acclaimed author further explained her reason for choosing to write about the fictional character Scamander: "Having lived for so long in my fictional universe, I feel very protective of it and I already knew a lot about Newt. As hard-core 'Harry Potter' fans will know, I liked him so much that I even married his grandson, Rolf, to one of my favorite characters from the 'Harry Potter series, Luna Lovegood."

The creative partnership was initiated by Warner Bros. who thought it would be exciting to revisit the world of The Boy Who Lived.  According to the studio, 'Fantastic Beasts' is only the first in a planned series of films. Apart from films, the studio will likewise release several creative prokects such as video games and even tourist attractions.

According to Warner Bros., "Fantastic Beasts" will be the first in a planned series of films. In addition to the new franchise, Warner Bros. Entertainment has also entered into an "expanded creative partnership" with Rowling, which will cover projects like video games, digital initiatives and tourist attractions.

The official statement was released on Facebook which immediately garnered thousands of comments from keyed up supporters of Rowling. For Warner Bros., partnering with Rowling is a good move since the eight Harry Potter films based on Rowling's best-selling novels have earned over $7.7 billion worldwide.
