'SpongeBob SquarePants 2' Will Star Antonio Banderas As A Pirate; Is He The Next Johnny Depp?

The sequel to Spongebob's 2004 hit movie, "Spongebob SquarePants 2," will star Antonio Banderas as a pirate; is he destined to be the next Johnny Depp?

Antonio Banderas will star as a pirate in "Spongebob SquarePants 2," according to Diane Schleicher, Tybee's city manager, USA Today reports.

Who can forget Johnny Depp's portrayal of pirate Captain Jack Sparrow in the hugely successful "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise - will Banderas channel Depp's pirate character in "SpongeBob SquarePants 2?"

There's no way of knowing yet, but the movie is already well on its way - filming is set to begin next week in Georgia, according to Savannah Now, USA Today reports.

Schleicher said filming will take place on Tybee on Sept. 30 and in downtown Savannah on Oct. 9.

The series' main cast members, Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, Rodger Bumpass, Clancy Brown, and Carolyn Lawrence, are set to reprise their roles, USA Today reports.

The first SpongeBob movie was an animated film that incorporated live action scenes. It grossed more than $140 million.

According to Zap2it.com, the SpongeBob sequel has a reported release date of Feb. 13, 2015; more than a decade after its predecessor's release.

Season 10 of "SpongeBob SquarePants" is expected to premiere in 2014.
