Metallica Releases IMAX Movie; Frontman James Hetfield Reveals He Sang Karaoke In Japan

James Hetfield, frontman and guitarist for legendary band Metallica, revealed that he sang karaoke while they were on tour in Japan. In the meantime, they released their movie, co-produced by IMAX and co-starring Dane De Haan wherein they actually perform a live concert.

The project, entitled "Metallica: Through The Never" is like a concert within a movie (or a movie within a concert). It is highlighted with the best audio technology (pride of IMAX). The plot follows the story of Trip, a young roadie for Metallica, who is sent on an urgent mission during the band's show.  Seems easy enough but it actually turns into an unforgettable epic adventure.

Hetfield shares his thoughts on a candid interview with Collider.

On performing for the movie: "It was totally different  when you know that you are performing for a movie. Sonically and visually, we knew how intense we wanted it to be."

On having done Karaoke: "I often sing 'Wicked Game' by Chris Isaak. I got thrown out of the karaoke place. It was in Japan, where they take their karaoke seriously."

On performing in Japan: "The culture is so, so different. It was fun to go there and see them loosening up their ties. They dismiss the crowd by sections..it was very uniform. Now, the last time we went there, they were pretty loose."

On his private collections: "I collect automobile memorabilia-autobilia and 40s-50s era neon signs. It's not the cheapest collection hobby, or cars. (In the 40s-50s) Back then the world was easy."

On making Film Soundtracks: We've been offered to write songs for movies, but it's a risky thing. You don't know how good the movie's going to be. You don't want to be attached to something that would tank you. "

On writing new material: "It will be out as soon as we finish it. We haven't started it. But when it's done, we will give birth."
