Ellen Pompeo: Emmys Was Disappointing, `That Dance Number Was Embarrassing’

Ellen Pompeo did not have a good time at the Emmy Awards show this year. Ellen Pompeo, the 43-year-old star of Grey’s Anatomy said she "was really disappointed" by Sunday's broadcast.

In an interview on Monday, the day after the Emmys were broadcast, Ellen Pompeo said “I didn't see any diversity in the Emmys at all. The Emmys felt so dated to me. That dance number was embarrassing. Did you see one person of color in that dance number?"

Ellen Pompeo wasn’t the only one who noticed how few minorities were represented at the Emmys. There were a few, like the first black person ever nominated for an Emmy, Diahann Carroll. Kerry Washington was nominated for best actress in a drama. Kerry Washington she would have been the first African-American to win the trophy if she won, but it went to “Homeland” star, Claire Danes.

"Grey's Anatomy" is one of the more diverse shows on television, which Pompeo says is one of her favorite things about the series, which debuts its 10th season on ABC on Thursday.
