‘Drinking Buddies’ Had No Script! Anna Kendrick Was Actually Drunk While Shooting! Crazy Trivia From The Movie

Anna Kendrick shot one of the pivotal scenes while she was actually drunk. Kendrick was supposed to play a drinking game in the cabin with Jake Johnson. Since this particular scene was the last thing that needed to be filmed that day, Kendrick and Jake decided to use real alcohol instead of the fake alcohol provided. Because the movie is entirely improvised, this gave the actors more control over the scenes - in this case, Johnson's character is in charge of the game, so Johnson decided to make Kendrick drink more.

Since the film was completely improvised, the director used multiple takes. However, the picnic scene between Anna Kendrick and Ron Livingston in the forest was done in one take. Director Joe Swanberg thought the one shot was prefect and "didn't want to spoil it." Swanberg and all the actors in the film eventually voted for this scene as the best in the movie (according to IMDB).

Speaking of Director Swanberg, he makes a cameo by getting into a fight with Jake Johnson. He also insisted that the actors appear on the set with no idea which scene they will shoot. In one instance, Livingston was told that he will have a break-up scene. Since the theme of the movie was drunkenness and infidelity, Livingston had to ask: "With Whom?"
