‘The Simpsons’ Will Have A 26th Season! One Character Will Not Make it—Who Will It Be?

It's a record! "The Simpsons" is the longest-running animated TV Show. Fox has confirmed that it will be renewed for a 26th season.

The show just returned for its 25th year on Sunday and will air its latest "Treehouse of Horror" episode (with a couch gag by Guillermo Del Toro of "Pacific Rim" fame) two nights from now.

A press release from Fox Entertainment Kevin Reilly (as quoted by contact.com):   "For more than a quarter of a century,The Simpsons has captured the hearts and minds of fans in a way that transcends ages, languages and cultures. This ground-breaking series is not only the longest-running scripted show in television history, it's one of the greatest sitcoms of our time, and I'm looking forward to yet another landmark season,"

However, one character is not going to make the trip all the way to the 26th season. The rumors that they will kill off an important character was actually confirmed. In a report from Sun News:  "Al Jean said that a regular character will be killed off in the forthcoming series, but didn't reveal any information about which character it will be."'I'll give you a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character, but I won't say who it is.' Said Jean."

There are about two dozen characters who would fit the Emmy qualification. We can narrow it down to those who are regular characters. For example, Anne Hathaway won an Emmy for her voice over work as Princess Penelope in "Once Upon a Time in Springfield" but she is by no means a regular character.  All of the main actors have won an Emmy and they play multiple regular characters. A deeper analysis is required.
