Fox Renews “The Simpsons” for 26th Season; Scares Up an Early Treehouse of Horrors Episode for Halloween

“The Simpsons” are here to stay. Fox renewed “The Simpsons” for their 26th season.

It seem that Fox threatens to end “The Simpsons” every year and every year “The Simpsons” gets renewed. That’s why “The Simpsons” is the longest running scripted TV show in Television History.
“The Simpsons” are the best thing the Fox channel has. It might be the best thing any network has. “The Simpsons” went from rude child to elder statesmen, I guess that would be from Bart to Grandpa, since spinning off from The Tracy Ullman Show, and they show no signs of slowing.

This Sunday, Fox will air “The Simpsons”’ “Treehouse of Horror XXIV,” their annual Halloween special episode. This season began with a riff on the Showtime series Homeland with their episode “Homerland,” and came in number one of the night (woo-hoo) proving they can still keep up with whatever’s happening in the world, skewering everything in their path.

Fox Broadcasting Company’s Entertainment Chairman, Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, announced that Fox picked up “The Simpsons” for its historic (on the book, we’ll see about that) 26th season, saying “For more than a quarter of a century, “The Simpsons” has captured the hearts and minds of fans in a way that transcends ages, languages and cultures. This groundbreaking series is not only the longest-running scripted show in television history, it’s one of the greatest sitcoms of our time, and I’m looking forward to yet another landmark season.”

“The Simpsons” is the longest-running scripted show in television history. It is more than a TV show, it’s a cultural phenomenon, it’s a Universal Studios rollercoaster, it’s a postage stamp, it’s a breakfast cereal. “The Simpsons” won 28 Emmy Awards, was nominated for an Academy Award in 2012 for the theatrical short “The Longest Daycare,” it was made into a hit feature film and got its own star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame. Time magazine named it the “Best Show of the 20th Century.” Entertainment Weekly called “The Simpsons” the "Greatest American Sitcom" in 2013.

This weekend, “The Simpsons” will air its annual Halloween special, “Treehouse of Horror XXIV.

According to the Fox Press Release:“director, screenwriter, producer and novelist Guillermo del Toro (“Pacific Rim,” “Pan’s Labyrinth”) resurrects monsters and classic characters from horror films throughout history for the opening couch gag. Then, in the first of three spine-tingling tales, Homer travels around Springfield wreaking havoc in a rhyming spoof of a popular children’s tale. In “Dead and Shoulders” Bart is beheaded during a kite accident, his head is attached to Lisa’s body and they must live together as one. The final frightening tale, “Freaks no Geeks,” features Mr. Burns’ traveling circus, The Burnsum and Bailey Circus, which has stopped in Springfieldland in the 1930s. Trapeze artist Marge and Strong Man Homer are performers, and things go awry when circus freak Moe starts to make advances towards Marge.”
