Josh Freeman Signs With Vikings: Reportedly One-Year Deal Worth $3 Million Days After Cut By Buccaners, Could Start Immediately

Josh Freeman signs with Vikings only a few days after being released by the Tampa Bay Buccaners.

With a reported number of teams interested in the former first-round pick by the Bucs, quarterback Josh Freeman decided to sign with the Minnesota Vikings. Freeman's agent broke the news on Twitter late Sunday night.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the deal is a one-year contract worth around $3 million.  Josh Freeman had a fallen out in Tampa, which led to his release and then signing with the Vikings.

With the Buffalo Bills saying they were heating up their talks with the free agent, Freeman decided to join the quarterback group of Christian Ponder and Matt Cassel. In Buffalo, he could have started for at least a few weeks as their starting rookie-quarterback, E.J. Manuel out with an injury.

Faith in Ponder might be running thinner than it already was with his performance this season. Cassel was the QB in the loss last week for the Vikes. This could be an opportunity for Freeman to possibly start now and the in the future in Minnesota.

Minnesota only trails Green Bay, Chicago and Detroit by one loss in the NFC North.

Freeman could be what this running-heavy team with Adrian Peterson and a solid defense need to make the playoffs again and do something positive while there.
