Monday's pitching matchup is Charlie Morton for the Pirates vs Michael Wacha of the Cardinals. Rookie Shelby Miller won't start as fellow rookie, Wacha, dominated Septemeber. Wacha had a 1.72 ERA in five starts last month and carried a no-hitter through 8 2/3 innings in his last one. "We're talking about playoff baseball," Pirates second baseman and Pittsburgh native Neil Walker told MLB.com. "We want any chance to advance, no matter where it's at. Yeah, in front of hometown fans would be pretty special. But we're just trying to find a way to win one more game, anywhere."
History could be made Monday by the Pirates, though the Cardinals seemingly find a way to win with their backs against the wall. It was with two outs in the World Series a few years ago when they rallied to win the game and the series. Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle knows it won't be easy.
"You have to continue to earn your way here, especially late in the postseason -- not much is given to you," Hurdle said after Pittsburgh's dramatic 5-3 victory in Game 3. "We'll have an opportunity to go out at home and win a ballgame. Obviously if that happens, we'll be in a much better place moving forward."
