Melissa McCarthy Elle Cover "Fat-Shaming", Stirs Up Waves Of Backlash Against Elle Magazine For "Ridiculous" Shot

Melissa McCarthy's Elle cover is a lot different than the traditional Elle cover...in that rather wearing something flattering, poor Melissa McCarthy was forced to hide underneath a giant raincoat like a pariah.

Comedian Melissa McCarthy is one of the hottest actresses in Hollywood right now, so she deserves the cover of Elle. Some idiot stylist, however, decided that because she's plus-sized, she should have to hide in a huge coat. Many view the cover as fat-shaming.

In an article for Slate.com, writer June Thomas said, "McCarthy's hair covers a quarter of her gorgeous face, and with her hands stuffed deep into her coat pockets, the only visible flesh is a tiny triangle between the coat's lapels and the briefest glimpse of calf."

McCarthy was one of six 2013 "Women in Hollywood" Elle chose for their own covers. The others, such as Reese Witherspoon, wear skin-tight, revealing outfits.

McCarthy, though, looks uncomfortable, with her hands stuffed in her pockets, her shoulders hunched, and her hair covering her face.

Elle responded by releaseing a statement saying "On all of our shoots, our stylists work with the stars to choose pieces they feel good in, and this is no different," a spokesperson for the magazine said. "Melissa loved this look, and is gorgeous on our cover. We are thrilled to honor her as one of our Women in Hollywood this year."
