Nolan Ryan Retires as Texas Rangers CEO; Says He May Work In Baseball But Will Never Be a CEO Again

Nolan Ryan retired as the Rangers CEO. Nolan Ryan's last day with the Texas Rangers will be Oct. 31.

The Hall of Fame Pitcher was the driving force behind the rise of the Texas Rangers, bringing the team to the playoffs three years straight. Under Nolan Ryan the Texas Rangers drew over three million fans twice. Nolan Ryan drove The Texas Rangers to The World Series. Under Nola Ryan joined the Texas Rangers had fifth-highest winning percentage in baseball at .551. Nolan Ryan’s ownership brought the Rangers out of bankruptcy in 2010.

Nolan Ryan hasn’t said whether he would take another job in baseball again, but the pitching giant admitted he would never again be a CEO. Nolan Ryan announced that he is selling his interest in the Texas Rangers to majority owners Ray Davis and Bob Simpson.

It is too early to speculate where Nolan Ryan, 66, would go if he wants to stay near the diamond. Baseball fans are guessing that he would make fit the Houston Astros like a glove.

With Nolan Ryan out at The Texas Rangers, the team will be looking for a new face of the rising franchise.

Nolan Ryan took the job as president of the Texas Rangers in 2008. Ryan was removed as president during spring training. Nolan Ryan stayed on as CEO.

Nolan Ryan said “This closes a chapter of my life in baseball and I feel like that it's time for me to move onto other things. It has been a decision that's weighed on me heavily but I feel like it's the right decision. When you make these types of decisions, you have to do it from the heart. I really feel like at this point in time it's the correct thing for me to do."

Ryan continued "You don't just wake up one day and make a decision of this magnitude," Ryan said. "It was something I had been thinking about off and on for a while now. I just felt like it was probably time for me to move on. It just felt like that's what I really needed to do. I've reached that point in my life that it was time for me to move on and go into another phase of my life."

While the Texas Rangers’ official announcement said Nolan Ryan was retiring from the franchise, Nolan Ryan said he was resigning. Ryan says to him, there’s no difference. He’ll be on his ranch and with his grandchildren.

In a statement MLB commissioner Bud Selig said "I am certain that Nolan will continue to be a great credit to MLB and an exemplary ambassador."
